Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has taken on a notorious and fearsome persona in the media as the leader of terrorist organisation Islamic State (IS) — that has claimed responsibility for some of the bloodiest terror attacks in recent memory.
IS has made use of social media to spread its propaganda. Now, a bunch of Iraqi and Syrian comedians — some living in IS-controlled areas — are using animation and satire to flip IS and its ideology on its head through their YouTube channel ‘The Bigh daddy Show‘. The show stars an animated Baghdadi as a bumbling caliphate leading a bunch of idiots. Watch a video clip here.
“The main idea about the cartoon is to make ISIS something not to fear, but something to laugh at,” Khalifa Barhoom, one of the activists behind The Bigh daddy Show, told Newsy. The group mostly consists of journalists and mediapersons, apart from a few social activists and lawyers. “We are trying to say you cannot fight fire with fire, because all you have is ash after that,” he added.
