What happens when you have cerebral palsy and you shake all the time? You accept your disability and become a stand-up comedian. At least that’s exactly what Maysoon Zayid did. Co-founder of the New York Arab-American Comedy Festival, Zayid became a sensation on social media after she spoke on TEDwomen, a three-day conference on the power of women.
In the video, she spoke about how because of a drunk doctor, who cut her mom six different times during pregnancy, resulted in her getting cerebral palsy. However, her father didn’t believe in the concept of ‘can’ts’ and made Zayid do everything that her three elder sisters did. Even though the 14-minute-long clip highlights serious issues such as cerebral palsy, disability, discrimination, social media bullying and more, it leaves you laughing your guts out.
Zayid doesn’t want anyone to feel bad for her or for that matter any disabled individual, instead she focused on inspiring every being in the room. The talk, which happened in 2014, has again come to light after the video went viral on social media. If you are feeling blue today and want your dose of laughter along with a touch of inspiration, then give this video a watch.
