As America and the world prepares for the US presidential election on November 8, which has had quite a boisterous campaign filled with bitter comments and ugliness, we could all use some good dose of humour and wit, and if the US President himself offers it, nothing like it!
While Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton tussle it out, Barack Obama seems to be taken the load off and is winning hearts not through governance any more but with his sheer wit and sarcasm. Not that he hasn’t done that already. After all, he has been hailed as the coolest president ever!
Remember his final speech to the White House Correspondents’ Association? Yes, the mic drop that impressed was just the beginning of his funny affairs. Not to forget there was ‘slow-jamming’ session with Jimmy Fallon, and of course the retirement plan video with Vice-President Joe Biden, never before he cooled so cool with his aviator glares and that gait, remember?
Well, Obama won our hearts all over again when he appeared for the late night Jimmy Kimmel show, where he trolled Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump — known for his prolific use of Twitter to settle scores — making Trump the punch line for jokes. He also said, “If I were able to run for a third term, Michelle would divorce me,” noting his wife does not like politics.
But the highlight was when he was back with second edition of ‘Mean Tweets’ to President Obama in the show. He read out #MeanTweets but gave punny responses that was loved and lauded by not only the audience present in the studio, but those watching too. The video with Obama reading some of those nasty tweets posted by Kimmel on his Facebook page had over 3.1 million views, at the time of writing. When one of the Twitter user wrote, “Barack Obama… Bro, do you even lift?” Obama had the coolest answer, “Well, I lifted the ban on Cuban cigars, that’s worth something.” But he nailed it when he replied to a tweet by Donald Trump. Trump had written on Twitter, “President Obama will do down as perhaps the worst president in the history of the United States!” To which the two-time president replied, “At least I will go down as a president,” Obama said.
People across the Internet have been going crazy with his latest video and the classy reply to Trump. No matter what awaits Trump post-November, but Obama definitely trumped this one!
