Dowry is highly prevalent in India and even though it is widely denounced, it continues to exist across sections of society. This system as a whole puts immense pressure on the woman and her family. Earlier this month, the Bihar government, along with self-help groups, aanganwadi centre members, UNICEF teams and artistes initiated a campaign to condemn the practice. In the light of the campaign, a UNICEF video has surfaced titled ‘Are you a Khota Sikka for taking dowry?’. In the video, family members of the couple are deciding the date when the groom’s father asks what the bride’s family was planning on doing for them. Watch the clip to see how the bride’s father handles the ‘dowry demand’ situation.
