Video of India’s Menstruation Man is going viral for all the right reasons

He has successfully helped millions of girls across the country with his invention of affordable sanitary pads.

By now, many are familiar with the name Arunachalam Muruganantham, India’s Menstruation Man who has successfully helped millions of girls across the country with his invention of affordable sanitary pads. In India, millions of women either can’t afford safe menstrual hygenic products or don’t have access to.

The idea occured to Muruganantham after his marriage when he saw his wife using old rugs during her periods. To help her, he decided to make sanitary pads. It took him two years to finally make a usable sanitary pad during which his wife left him because of embarassment.

Today, 18 years after he started working on his invention, his industry offers jobs to thousands and 877 brands make his sanitary pads in 27 Indian states. Also, his wife came back to him five years later and is very proud of her husband now.
