The world is witnessing the worst possible refugee crisis since the Second World War and millions have been displaced and forced to flee their homes. Syria is among those countries that have been gravely affected. Repeatedly, grim images of the war-torn country have shocked us and two photos of children have haunted the world in last two years. The picture of three-year-old Syrian boy Aylan Kurdi being washed ashore and five-year-old Omran Daqneesh, whose haunting gory image sitting in an ambulance traumatised the world.
But some wonderful things happened too after little Omran’s photo went viral. A six-year old boy, Alex, from New York wrote a letter to US President Barack Obama asking him what he could do to help him and offered him his home. In the letter, Alex also said he and his sister Catherine would think of him as “their brother”.
Obama was so impressed and touched by the humanity and generosity of the little ‘man’ that he ended up sharing it before the entire world. POTUS not only uploaded a video, where Alex read his letter aloud, but also shared it at the Leaders Summit on Refugees. The moving letter written by the boy was appreciated worldwide and was praised for his kindness.
Finally, Obama finally met Alex, his little sister Catherine and their parents at the White House recently. Little Alex looked really handsome dressed in a suit, specially made for the special meeting and was happy to meet the president.
In a video released by the White House, President Obama greets Alex and said, “I liked what you wrote so much that I ended up reading it to everybody. You being so nice, and kind, hopefully make other people think the same way. So I was very proud of you.”
Their meeting was captured in turned into an emotional video, which not only will melt your heart but may even bring tears to your eyes. The video has gone viral and it has garnered over 2.1 million views, at the time of writing.
