Only a few days ago, Hyderabad-based man Rathish Sekhar got the shock of his life when he received a bill of Rs9.15 lakh from Ola for travelling from Jubilee Hills to Nizamabad estimated at Rs5,000. Blaming it on the problem in their computers, Ola got away with a sorry and corrected the amount.
But here’s another shocker. According to a report in The Times of India, the cab aggregator handed a bill of Rs83,395 to Ghatkopar-based businessman Kamal Bhatia for travelling from Mumbai to Pune, and back. Of course, they said sorry and again blamed it on the server, but this time, the damage control included waiving off the entire bill. Yes, Ola didn’t charge a penny even after the app showed a bill of Rs83,000.
Bhatia, a resident of Ram Narayan Narkar Marg in Pantnagar, told TOI that he was eventually given a revised bill of Rs4,088, he paid but then he was later refunded the entire amount.
He reportedly booked the cab on September 4 to travel to Pune with this family of four. “We were there at the wedding through the day and started for Mumbai in the evening. We reached our place at 9.25pm. When the driver, Rakesh, closed the trip, I received a soft copy of the bill. I went numb for a moment as it showed the amount as Rs 83,395,” Bhatia told TOI.
Just like in the case of Sekhar, even the driver couldn’t believe the bill but unable to do anything he asked Bhatia to contact the customer care who argued with the staffer at Ola for half an hour.
“I had never imagined that I would be a victim of such a hefty bill. Even if I travelled by plane to Pune, it would not have cost so much. It is common logic that a car cannot cover 7,000 km in 14 hours,” he said.
He even decided to take up the matter with state transport department, but decided otherwise after Ola revised the inflated bill. The next day, Bhatia reportedly got a call from Ola apologising for the goof-up informing him that he’ll be given a refund for the fare.
That’s two instances in a matter of just a few days… What’s going on, Ola?
