Latching on to the Uri attack, comedian Tanmay Bhat, who has recently garnered reputation for commenting on every on-going political debate in his unique style, tweeted a school incident where he was asked to debate whether India and Pakistan should go to war over Kashmir. The comedian recounted how he had to argue against the motion and won the debate, but lost respect of his fellow mates.

He started narrating the incident describing how anxious he felt going up against a “bright kid” for arguing against the popular opinion. Bhat recounted how his opponent began with an anecdote that won over the audience.

“The kid got onto stage and began narrating an incident. Genius, begin with an anecdote. Should’ve thought of that myself,” Bhat tweeted. By the time he was done narrating, the crowd joined him in chanting “Bharat Mata ki Jai”.

He went on to write how he lost his fellow students respect when he successfully argued against the option of nuking Pakistan.

On Sunday, four terrorists carried out an attack at the rear office of the infantry battalion at an army camp in Uri, killing at least 17 army personnel. The security forces eliminated all the four terrorists in an encounter that ended a little after 8 am.

According to the preliminary investigations by the army, the militants belonged to the Pakistan-based militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad. The attacks have been condemned by every leader of the country, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who said that those behind the attack would not be spared.

The Uri attack has fueled the debate, once again, on what should India’s response be on constant acts of ‘terrorism’ from ‘one particular neighbouring country, with several leaders from India reiterating the demand for hard action. BJP leader Ram Madhav said that India should give ‘jaw for tooth’ to Pakistan, while Home Minister Rajnath Singh has declared Pakistan “a terrorist state”.
