Sania Mirza and Sanjay Manjrekar's Twitter exchange is epic Sania Mirza and Sanjay Manjrekar’s Twitter exchange is epic

Twitter was almost a quiet place today till ace tennis player Sania Mirza decided to share her happiness with the world on being the No. 1 player in the world for 80 consecutive weeks. Apparently, on October 18, Mirza completed her 80 consecutive weeks of being on the top and she couldn’t help but share it on Twitter. Wishes poured in from across the world and she replied to many of them. “Today I complete 80 consecutive weeks as the number 1 player in d world its been an amazing journey and just inspires me to work harder @WTA,” she tweeted.

But one tweet got to her and probably touched a nerve. The tweet was by former Indian cricketer and now commentator Sanjay Manjrekar, who pointed out a ‘detail’ that resulted in Mirza dishing out a sharp counter-shot. “No 1 doubles player you mean. Congrats!” he responded. But she was quick to respond with what’s being called a befitting reply. “Since I don’t play singles anymore isn’t that obvious/common sense?my bad, common sense is not that common after all I guess.. :)” she tweeted, but was smart to add, “Hey.. But thanks for your wishes though ofcourse”.

Much akin to a real-life nail-biting match, Twitterati were exposed to several noteworthy hits by both sportspersons.

The conversation between the two didn’t end at that because Manjrekar came up with an equally witty response. “Well, you missed out an important detail for someone like me who lacks common sense :)” she shot back and in no time, she shared an article with all the details.

Later, she shared an Instagram link on Twitter where she had posted a picture with hashtag #forpeoplewhodontgetmyhumour #sorrynotsorry and caption, “Sarcasm. That’s how I hug”.

Read the conversation here.

Twitterati seems to be enjoying the Twitter match between the two.

Sanjay's comment reminds me of Kerala CPM sports minister Jayarajan's statement about Mohammed Ali. For those who are not from Kerala, when a channel quizzed the minister for his response about Mohammed Ali online, the minister promptly acknowledged the contribution of Mohammed Ali toward sports in Kerala etc etc. before the line was cut.

Who ever has known that Ms.Sania Mirza is a tennis player would have known that she is a doubles player and would have probably known too that she is no:1 for sometime. Only unknown part was how long. If so, why not add the 'doubles player' part in the tweet. Without that info, the tweet is really misleading for those who have no knowledge in tennis. Please don't blame Mr.Manjrekar unnecessarily.
