AIB’s co-founder Tanmay Bhat has been the talk of the town for a few days now. On May 26, he uploaded a video titled “Sachin vs Lata Civil War” which many have taken offence to arguing that it was demeaning towards the legends.
Bollywood stars like Anupam Kher and Riteish Deshmukh took to Twitter to criticise him. It didn’t end at that, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena lodged a police complaint against the comedian and politicians of the Bhartiya Janata Party are also criticising.
Amid all the chaos, here is fellow comedian Utsav Chakraborty’s rant on how the outrage is absolutely uncalled for, which again is a Snapchat video faceswapping with Lata Mangeshkar and Sachin Tendular.
“The joke is not that the person being made fun of is old. The joke is that this person wouldn’t actually do that. The joke is that I’m on Snapchat and bickering with another person who is not on Snapchat,” he says.
Chakraborty goes on to explain why making fun of Lata Mangeshkar is not wrong. “Lata Mangeshkar is a legend, but that shouldn’t excuse her from jokes. In fact, especially because she’s a legend, we should make fun of her. In fact, it’s in bad taste to make fun of someone who’s less powerful,” he says.
