As you may be aware that Twitter is a dangerous place for politicians, especially for those who switch sides and change their views. On October 20, Congress leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi joined the Bhartiya Janata, slamming party vice president Rahul Gandhi for being “unresponsive”. But like a troll rightly pointed out, before switching political parties, a politician might want to delete all his/her old tweets because they’ll come back to haunt.

This is exactly what happened to Joshi when the news of her joining the BJP reached the Internet. Many on social media dug out her old tweets in which she had criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP for various issues. In fact, she was one of the most aggressive leaders the Congress had. “No proof but#Kanhaiyya guilty of sedition. HRD Minister#Katerias spits venom yet innocent.Wow! Modi Sarkar. But why UP Govt silent?” she said in one of the tweets. “#BJP badly exposed in trying 2 communalism #Muzaffarnagar rape case.Dirty politics will not pay,” she wrote in another.

Unsparing Twitterati had this to say.

And obviously, there were jokes!

Reportedly, Joshi quit Indian National Congress because she was denied two assembly tickets, one for herself from Lucknow Central, the other for her son Mayank from Lucknow Cantonment. Also, because Shiela Dikshit was named CM candidate and she wasn’t given independent charge of any panel.
