Remember Parthiv Patel, the kid who made history by becoming the youngest Test wicketkeeper back in 2002? It’s alright if you don’t, because you won’t be the only one left wondering. Just check Twitter for confirmation!

Patel has been brought in as replacement for the injured Wriddhiman Saha for the third Test of the India-England series. Saha strained his left thigh during the second Test in Visakhapatnam and will not be able to make a mark in the third Test to avoid aggravating the injury.

If you haven’t been keeping tabs on the young player, this will be Patel’s first Test match after eight years and his first international game after four years. The Gujarat Ranji players’ last Test was against Sri Lanka in 2008 and his last international contest was an ODI also against Sri Lanka in 2012 in Australia. Patel has an experience of 20 Tests under his belt with 683 runs to his name at an average of 29.69.

A brief statement by BCCI said, “As a precautionary measure, Saha has been advised rest and will not play in the next Test match of the series. Parthiv Patel will replace Saha in the Indian team for the third Test.”

As soon as the announcement was made, social media sites were buzzing with the news. There were many who congratulated the player, some who questioned the decision but the most classic responses were puns and jokes that it inspired. Check out some of them here.

Later, Patel even took to Twitter to notice and acknowledge all those who wished him well. He tweeted: “Thank you very much everyone for ur wishes…this couldn’t have come at a better time..will give my best..#happytobeback#india#test”.
