Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s demonetisation announcement did not go down well with opposition parties, and everyone slammed BJP for the hasty decision. Coming down heavily on the PM, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had previously termed the decision as heartless and draconian. Now, everyone’s aware of the difficulty that the common man has had to face over the past two days, and as angst usually inspires creativity, it seems the ‘people’s leader’ was also moved to vent her frustration as a poem.

Banerjee posted the lengthy 32-line poem on her social media account, lambasting “the ruler” using strong words like “authoritarian”, talking about his rule as a “tyrannical” raj. Written in Bengali, the CM has played with many and hit out at Modi without taking his name.

Mincing no words, she starts with a direct blow at the PM, taunting him about forgotten the duty of a king, the duty as a citizen, the intolerance day and night that plagues the country, the ‘one king’ who considers himself ‘god’, hitting his target with the most poisonous arrow.

She goes on to elaborate who this target is – is it really those who are hoarding black money, on the poor man who now can’t even manage to get a single day’s wages.

Poetically, she uses metaphors such as “Lokkhir jhanpi”, meaning the precious purse of goddess Lakshmi, the lord of wealth, and by his move that purse is now empty. She accuses the ruler of safeguarding the guilty and punishing the poor man.

Voicing exactly what many have been asking these past few days, she questions the “haste” and how in just “one day” the ruler “turned everyone to a destitute”. She writes: “So fast, in so much haste, Why this unplanned dream? Snatching everything from the common man, You have shattered the hearts of poor.”

She mocks at the decision of offering Rs 2000 in exchange by saying that the ruler has first taken away the right of the people and then have been giving them “alms” from that money?

Someone even attempted to translate the poem in English for better understanding of others.

The chief minister highlights the misery of the daily wagers and the outcry in the markets she asks, “Have you heard that labourers have not received their wages?” With reference of “swetpadma” (white lotus), she also takes a dig at BJP’s symbol. In the end, she warns, “those you have robbed, showing off the white lotus of chastity, be prepared in coming days, to get triple talaq’.

The poem has been shared by many, but not many supported her sentiment. In fact, people have been applauding the PM for taking “bold” decision instead.

Modi is another hitler now. Ask him how much he spends on foreign tours and how the poor are standing in line in front of bank. He is Ambani's agent

Mamata di why don't you retire and write poetry full time, atleast you may get good at something when you retire from politics. Guilt at being caught with your hands in the cookie jar is very evident to all, the more you complain. Common man's endurance has been tested for 70 years so don't worry about us!!!

                                1) Most of the currency printed in 2016 is in Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denominations. If this was crackdown was being planned for a while(rumour is that it was being planned since the past six months)Why were Rs 100 notes not printed in adequate numbers? 2) If the Rs 2000 was to be introduced in short notice, the size of the note and position of the parameters in the note that are checked by the sensors should have been adequately designed so that time taken to recalibrate the ATMs wouldn't have been so long. 3) These Rs 2000 notes are useless for day to day transactions of the common man. Why was the Rs 500 not printed in place of the Rs 2000 notes? 4) How could the images of the Rs 2000 note be shared on social media even before the PM announced this disruptive step. Obviously there was a leak and some persons might have taken advantage of this making this w exercise unfair. All this points to the fact that either the demonetisation has been done in haste or that not much thought has gone into it's implementation. It appears that Mr Modi has too much faith in his band of bhakts to generate enough support to make even the bitterest pill acceptable to the common man.

Black money is not in the currency, it is in the realestate, the gold and the foreign black accounts. Therefore times should have been provided to use old currency till it was replaced.
