When Congress scion Rahul Gandhi set out for his Khat Sabha today, there was no one who could have predicted what would end up being the news point of the day. And those waiting to troll him – and precedence has shown us that there are many such people – didn’t even need to wait for a statement or tweet to take off from. This time, it was a Kissa Khaat Ka!

In what can be seen as a huge embarrassment for the grand old party, the Congress vice-president’s Khat Sabha ended in Rudrapur of Uttar Pradesh’s Dewaria district as the locals began fighting for ‘khats’, and taking them home once the event got over.

Of the 4,000 cots sanctioned for the various khat sabhas, around 1,500 were used in Dewaria alone. Reportedly, each of these cots cost around Rs800. Early morning images of the cots all lined up at the venue were initially shared across channels, but at the time, none could have anticipated exactly what would end up being the news point of the day.

Visuals of attendees carrying the cots out of the sabha arena flooded media channels and the Internet, and soon enough the trolling began. From jokes on Khat Yatras and Khatia Sarkao Party to those taking a dig at him for previous instances when the young politician was filmed sleeping in Parliament.

What made matters worse was Gandhi’s tweet sharing photos of the sabha, none on which depicted the mayhem that had followed. One Twitter user started the hashtag #ReplaceMovieNameswithKhaat, and the suggestions came flying. Some of the popular ones include Game of Khaats, Ye Khat Na Milegi Dobara, and A Flying Khaat. Soon, #ReplaceMovieNameswithKhaat started trending on Twitter, with hundreds contributors to the thread within a matter of an hour.
