Karan Johar on November 15 took to Twitter to unveil the first look of his upcoming film Dhadak. The film is the Hindi remake of the blockbuster Marathi film Sairat and will mark the Bollywood debut of Shahid Kapoor’s younger brother Ishaan Khattar and Sridevi’s elder daughter Janhvi Kapoor. Johar captioned the photo, “Presenting JANHVI in #???? Releasing 6th July 2018”. Later, he also shared another look introducing Khattar: “Presenting ISHAAN in #DHADAK”.

While the tweet went viral and was widely shared by celebrities, wishing the star kids luck for their debut film, it also brought the entire nepotism controversy to the fore. Johar, who has often been accused of promoting nepotism, including by Kangana Ranaut on his talk show Koffee With Karan, had defended himself on several platforms and had, with Varun Dhawan and Saif Ali Khan, taken potshots at the Ranaut at the IIFA awards this year. But much like the nepotism joke at the awards function, the first look of the film also did not go down very well with people on social media. People are calling out the director for promoting nepotism (again). While one wrote, “NEPOTISM again”, another tweeted, “Another example of Nepotism …this man is ambassador of Nepotism.” Some even referred to Ranaut’s comments saying, “Kangana must be laughing after seeing this.”

This is the poster shared by Johar.

And it was not long before people on Twitter screamed out nepotism!
Here are some of the reactions.
