As teary-eyed supporters gathered near the Apollo Hospitals in Chennai, praying for their Amma, civic servants were vigilant and tried their best to maintain law and order not only around the hospital but throughout the state. With popular leader J Jayalalithaa’s demise, the ever-increasing mourning crowd flocked out of their home to see their chief minister and pay an homage. The state police played a crucial role in managing the crowd at such a sensitive time. However, needless to say they offered service without any rest or meal.

While pictures and posts about the late chief minister’s political and entertainment career dominate the social media, one particular post has been winning hearts. And no, it does not focus on Jayalalithaa, but how the office canteen of ‘The Hindu’ newspaper was serving food to police officials.

As the state is observing seven days of mourning, there is almost a total shutdown in parts of Chennai and other parts of the state. Amid such a scenario, the organisation’s Chennai office served food and refreshments to the cops who have been managing crowd and shown an exemplary sense of duty.

A picture shared by a senior journalist, Jarshad Kakkrakandy shows cops being served at the canteen. Kakkrakandy wrote, “The Hindu, where I work, has been quietly providing food and refreshments to the police who came for security duty for Jaya’s funeral. Proud to work in such an organisation!” while sharing the photo on Facebook.

Since the picture was shared, people across the country praised the media organistion for the kind gesture. His post has been shared extensively online as people try to acknowledge the unsung heroes.
