Earlier this year, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar put a blanket ban on the consumption and possession of alcohol in the state. Anyone found guilty can be jailed, including their family members on the assumption that they were in the know, according to Bihar Excise (Amendment) Act, 2016.

Kumar feels the ban has yielded good results and he has never, in the past, felt so satisfied after making a political decision as he did with the ban.

On Tuesday, the CM said something that people on social media can’t stop laughing about. He said drinking juice in the dark is as good as drinking alcohol. “Such big positive change has come in, why ruin it for a peg or two? Turn off the lights and drink juice, you will feel its the same,” ANI quoted Kumar.

The chief minister also said he was proud of his decision and couldn’t be happier. “The happiness and satisfaction that I achieved from banning alcohol was something I never achieved before.”

But his ‘alcohol is same as drinking juice in the dark’ didn’t quite go well with people on social media who can’t stop mocking the statement. “Now pls ban non veg..and if anyone oppose tell them to turn off the light and eat mooli it taste same like chicken lollypop,” said a user. “Bizarre statement like Lalu’s when he said “It’s good fortune that flood has brought quality fishes to the doors of flood victims,” said another.

Kumar not only made the hilarious analogy but also made sure everyone knew that this ban will not be lifted. “Steps taken by the state government (on alcohol ban) cannot be retreated.” Oh well, will we now see a hike in juice sales, or will Baba Ramdev care to increase fruit juice distribution in Bihar?
