As the world was trying to wrap its head around the US presidential elections, Indians went haywire towards late evening on November 8, when PM Narendra Modi decided to scrap all the Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes in a matter of hours. The government announced that new Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 notes will be introduced. Though the decision caught a lot of people off guard, it has been lauded at the same time for being an iconic move to curb black money, illegal activities and terrorism, as the PM claimed in his speech. What followed was utter mayhem, with people making long queues to the nearest ATMs they could lay their eyes on.

Though, the PM had clarified that people in possession of the said denomination notes can exchange their money before December 30, 2016, the effect that the unprecedented move has had on the general public has been tremendous.

But guess who’s making hay while the sun shines?

The companies that facilitate and provide online payments must be really happy now, after all, people will start depending on online payments now, after the move.

And this is how the companies have brought their game up a notch and ahead, and are trying to convince people that digital money is THE way to go.

And guess what, in the midst of all the chaos, people are actually loving these marketing tactics that these companies have used!

Though a jolt out of the blue, the move has been touted as an essential one to curb the hoarding of black money. “A few people are spreading corruption for their own benefit,” Modi said in his speech, adding that “corruption and black money is something we have fought for immediately after assuming office…There is a time when you realise that you have bring some changes in society, and this is our time to feel the same.”
