There are enough times when people have been warned of spy gadgets in changing rooms. While the oft-used ones are smoke detectors and double-sided mirrors, there are now spy hooks that are easily available in the market that could be potentially dangerous for unsuspecting people in changing rooms or even bathrooms. Remember the recent incidents of homestay owners filming guests without their knowledge or permission?
Well, these hooks have a small camera, mic and memory card that record every movement and conversation in the vicinity. Now, one may argue that these gadgets can be used for security purposes, and it wouldn’t be wrong, but the chances of them being misused are quite high as well.
Usually, we check hotel rooms, toilets and changing rooms for a hidden camera but do we ever inspect the hooks by which we hang our belongings? Well, it’s time you should. These non-threatening looking plastic hooks are new age hi-tech surveillance camera know as ‘spy’ hook can be attached anywhere. The small hole on the top, can be easily mistaken for a small nail or screw that could have been used to affix it to the door or wall.
The hooks are widely available in India and can be bought online and are not that expensive. Priced between Rs 1300 to Rs 5500, these have motion sensor, full HD camera, memory expandable up to 32 GB and can work without flash light! Yes, just by inserting a small micro-SD card, the person who has put the hook can retrieve all the data using a USB cable or by transferring it to a computer. And while we were looking for such hooks online, we came across even plug sockets that are actually spy cameras!
Last year, Florida Police issued a strong warning and made people aware of these sneaky cameras in a ladies toilet or changing room. After receiving three complaints about similar hooks, in a Facebook post, the Florida Keys sheriff had said: “Anyone who has a public restroom on their property needs to check them closely.”
They asked that if they found the suspicious spy cameras to alert the police immediately, and so should you. “Keep in mind, though, that these are very small cameras that can be mounted in many locations and hidden in many seemingly every-day items,” the cops further added.
