Most times, people fail to give due acknowledgement to the work that public sector does for the society. Be it the police, the municipality or even the army, their work is mostly taken for granted and seen as just another job. That they have put their lives at risk to ensure every other person’s safety is not thought of or respected. But this restaurant in Gallipolis, Ohio, decided to change that and hung a signboard on its front window that said — ‘All uniformed police officers eat free every day, all day.’ This warm move on this KFC restaurant’s part is to prove that the city surely respects the police’s hard work and dedication towards keeping Gallipolis safer.
Yet, there were many who failed to appreciate KFC’s gesture and were of the opinion that other first responders like fire fighters etc. too, must be given the “special treatment” then. To this, the admin of Ohio Going Blue, who apparently is an officer of the law himself, had a thought-provoking reply.
This is the text of his reply.
This is a positive post, but some of you can’t see the bigger picture.
As an officer, I do not go into any establishment expecting/wanting ANYTHING to be free or let alone even a discount, whether I’m in uniform or not, and I can tell you other officers feel the same way. We don’t like “special treatment”. The fact is that KFC is acknowledging law enforcement, which is why this was posted.
To those who stated that other first responders should also be acknowledged. My answer? ABSOLUTELY.
KFC’s gesture asserts the reality that not all policemen are crooked or cunning, as they are generally portrayed in popular culture, but are humans serving the society selflessly. What more than the officer’s own comment can vouch for this!
