There is a movement among the Republicans who are now slowly and steadily distancing themselves from the very presidential candidate they chose to represent the party. Though the trend has been on for a while, it gathered momentum after a highly controversial conversation between Donald Trump and TV host Billy Bush came to light a few days ago, in which he can be heard saying that because he is a star, women will let them do anything. In the 2005 tape recording, Trump was talking about a married woman he was interested in. The statements made were derogatory and downright offensive to everyone who read about them.

Though Trump has apologised for the conversation and has said he is a changed man, there was a lot of outrage on social media. In a video released online after the controversy, Trump said, ““I said it, I was wrong, and I apologise. I’ve never said I’m a perfect person, nor pretended to be someone that I’m not. I’ve said and done things I regret, and the words released today on this more than a decade-old video are one of them. Anyone who knows me knows these words don’t reflect who I am.”

However, many cannot get themselves to forgive and forget what his overtly sexist conversation. Among them is a Wisconsin Republican activist @MBGlenn, who decided to quit the party because the Grand Old Party hasn’t taken a stand against their candidate and in that, is endorsing his views on women.

In 17 tweets that have subsequently gone viral on social media, Marybeth lashed out at the GOP for not taking an action against Trump. “He treats women like dogs, and you go against everything I – and other female conservatives – said you were & back down like cowards. Get this straight: We don’t need you to stand up for us, YOU needed to stand up for us for YOU. For YOUR dignity. For YOUR reputation,” she wrote.
