A Saudi man, reportedly under the influence of drugs, beat his baby and threw the child out of the window because he thought the baby was possessed by jinn (supernatural being). The man has been sentenced to 15 years in jail and 1,500 lashes by a Saudi court, reports Gulf News.

The court charged him for deliberately killing his child and causing the death of his wife, who frantically ran under shock and was hit by a speeding truck, for five years and 10 years, respectively.

The wife’s family pleaded for a death penalty, which was rejected by the judge in the Makkah court.

The incident happened last year when the family was driving, reportedly high on drugs, and the man threw his baby out of the window. Wife, unable to comprehend the situation flee from the spot to look for help on the highway and rammed into a speeding truck.

The man fled the spot and reached a police patrol car where he mumbled incomprehensible sentences. He tried to run when the officer took note of the blood on his clothes and the front seat but was immediately caught. That’s when he started screaming that he killed the jinn.
