A Pakistani limousine driver has pleaded guilty in a UAE court to secretly filming an Indian couple sharing intimate moments inside the tinted cabin of his taxi during their honeymoon in Dubai and attempting to blackmail them later, Gulf News reported.
Gulf News cited official records to report that the 28-year-old driver later sent the husband a clip of the video, on WhatsApp, and demanded 2,000 dirhams (Rs 37,000 approx). He reportedly threatened to upload the clip on social media, the report said.
Prosecutors said that the couple informed Dubai police about the blackmail attempt following which they lured the driver to the hotel the couple were staying in and nabbed him.
The newlyweds were in Dubai on a four-day honeymoon in February when they were secretly filmed inside the limousine that they had hired for a drive through the city.
Prosecutors reportedly accused the suspect of molesting the couple, blackmailing them and abusing the country’s telecom service. The driver pleaded guilty at the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday, Gulf News reported.
The report also quoted an unnamed friend of the couple as stating in his testimony: “My friend informed me that after the driver dropped them off at Dubai Mall, the latter messaged him and demanded Dh 2,000. He threatened to upload on internet a video of the couple having sex. The husband also told me that (the driver) sent him on WhatsApp a short clip of what had happened in the car. I met my friend in the hotel where he stayed and then we reported the matter to the police.”
A police officer confirmed to prosecutors that the suspect was lured to the hotel to collect his money where he was caught, Gulf News reported.
