Zynga,the pioneers of social gaming,on Wednesday said that social gaming is moving towards mobiles and the company has moved to a mobile first policy. The company,which introduced social and casual gaming with Farmville and Citiville to Facebook users,feels that the mass market is now on the mobile platform for social gaming companies.
“As a company,we are going through a transition. This is the second wave of consumer adoption of social gaming where people want to carry the games or entertainment with them wherever they go. Mobiles have made it more accessible and gamers want it to be more interactive, said Zynga founder and CEO Mark Pincus. Zynga has a total of around 220 million players.
He added that more than 50% download games on their mobiles and currently the company has more than 72 million active gamers on the mobile platform. However,Pincus acknowledged the role of Facebook in taking the social gaming industry to the masses.
Pincus also didnt see a threat of dependency on the major mobile app store owners like Apple or Google,like the social gaming companies had earlier with Facebook. The rules of engagement are written and are transparent, he said. According to him,the challenge while shifting to mobiles is such devices are usually used for single player games.
