The last few years have been great for Indian music lovers. We have finally been able to get great headphones from top international brands at very competitive prices. The boom in smartphone usage has brought in lots of European brands that take their music very seriously. The latest is Blaupunkt which has so far been focussing on the car audio segment in India.
Price: Rs 1,099
Blaupunkt, or the Blue Dot, has been synonymous with audio for many years. However, the world has changed since and the mobile phone has become the primary music source for most people. Blaupunkt has also changed by bringing in affordable earphones for this segment of users. However, does affordable mean the earphones will lack the audio quality you would naturally associate with a German audio company?
Well, listen to one song on this Blaupunkt earphone and you will not ask that question again. Frankly, I was not expecting much. The earphones were very common, almost looks like the sort you would buy off a street corner because you forgot the ones you use daily. But audio quality is something that makes these earphones standout.
With flat tangle-free cords and silicone eartips, I could use the EP570 during my morning walks listening to the crazy variety of songs on my phone. They offer good bass, but not too much of it. Which means I could switch easily from a Dev D to a soulful Stacey Kent. The EP570 has the versatility to handle that. Also, the call quality on the earphones is very good.
The only thing I don’t like is the slide mechanism for volume control which I fear will wear off soon. Also, there are separate appendages on the cable for volume control and microphone which could have been avoided. Also, don’t buy the white model if you want to use it in India.
Overall, the Blaupunkt EP570 is good value for money, especially for those who love their music without any distortion.
