Cortana, Microsoft’s voice-assistant has now been rolled out for select iPhone and Android devices and Cyanogen OS powered devices, the company said in a blogpost. It is only available in US and China for iPhones on iOS8 and Android 4.1.2.
Cortana app can be installed in a Windows 10 PC using the ‘Phone Companion’ app from Google Play or Apple App Store to phone. From helping users set reminders, alarms, to tracking flights on both phone and PC, Cortana will function like it does on Windows. Also whatever changes a user makes to Cortana’s Notebook will show across all devices.
Cortana will, however not offer features like toggling settings, or opening apps and invoke Cortana hands-free by saying “Hey Cortana” on Android and iOS as it does on Windows Phone devices.
Microsoft in its official blogpost said, “In addition, as a result of our close partnership with Cyanogen, we created a more integrated experience to enable Cortana’s voice activation ‘Hey Cortana’ on Cyanogen devices so you can call on her while on any screen or when you’re immersed in an app.”
“The custom integration includes the ability to ask Cortana to toggle network modes, power down your phone, and turn on Quiet Mode amongst other features. With Quiet Mode enabled, all notifications, calls and alarms will be silenced,” it added.
According to the company, Cortana app will be unveiled for other Cyanogen OS powered devices by early nexy year. Cortana will be available for users of OnePlus One in US with Cyanogen OS with 12.1.1 over-the-air update later in the month.
