The National Mobile Number Portability service facilitates customers to carry their existing mobile number from one telecom circle to another across India and choose the operator of their choice. NMNP is applicable to all pre-paid and post-paid customers.

Vodafone India Chief Commercial Officer Vivek Mathur said in a press statement, “Customers will be the biggest gainers of the National MNP service as it allows them to carry their existing number across India and also choose the operator of their choice. Vodafone has benefited from the intra-circle MNP that was rolled out in 2011 and we look forward to a similar response this time.”

In a statement, Airtel said its customers can enjoy special offers like processing requests for porting within Airtel’s network within 24 hours and free incoming on roaming until the portability request is processed.

The users can also avail the option of transferring their balance in pre-paid or carrying forward their unbilled/billed amount in the case of postpaid while porting their number to the new city, the statement added.

“With our complete readiness to launch national mobile number portability, we aim to empower customers enabling them to retain this identity as they move across anywhere in the country. To facilitate a seamless transition, we will also allow our customers to enjoy free incoming on roaming while their number portability request is being processed,” Bharti Airtel Director (Market Operations) Ajai Puri said.

Idea Cellular, which claims to be the MNP leader with over 14 million Net Gain of customers so far, has launched a toll-free number (18002700000) for those who wish to avail National MNP services on its network.

Sashi Shankar, Chief Marketing Officer, Idea Cellular said, “As a result of Idea’s growing network presence, focus on customer centricity, and a strong brand connect with the audience, our MNP leadership has grown consistently ever since services were launched in 2011. We are confident that the strong brand stickiness and growing preference will continue to benefit us as we now extend this service on a pan-India basis enabling users switching cities to retain their number.”

In readiness for national MNP launch, Tata Docomo said it has already ramped-up its subscriber segmentation strategy over the last couple of months’ aligned to delivering an enhanced customer experience.

Gurinder Singh Sandhu, Head Marketing, Tata Teleservices, Limited said: “We are expecting a positive uptake on full number portability. Customers can expect a completely seamless experience while porting on to the Tata Docomo network. There will be no acquisition fee for porting from Tata Docomo to Tata Docomo and customers can enjoy free incoming on roaming on Tata network until the portability request is processed. To fast track the port-in process customers can walk into any of our several exclusive stores across the country. Customers can also easily walk into any of Tata Docomo exclusive stores across its circles and place their request for port- in.”
