Instapaper Premium has waived off its subscription charges, making it free for all its users. Several features that were exclusively available Premium members initially cab now be used by everyone for free. These include an ad-free Instapaper website, full-text search for all articles, unlimited notes, text-to-speech playlists, unlimited speed reading, “Send to Kindle” via bookmarklet and mobile apps as well as Kindle Digests of up to 50 articles. “For existing Instapaper Premium users, we’ll offer prorated refunds for your current subscription, and you’ll no longer be billed for Instapaper Premium,” said Instapaper Team in a blogpost.

“Now that we’re better resourced, we’re able to offer everyone the best version of Instapaper,” it added. Instapaper initially charged $2.99 per month and $29.99 per year for Premium subscription. Pinterest acquired Instapaper in August but the amount wasn’t disclosed. ” Joining Pinterest provides us with the additional resources and experience necessary to achieve that shared mission on a much larger scale,” the Instapaper team had said in a blogpost.

Instapaper, which has made its Premium subscription free, faces direct competition to a similar Pocket service. However, with the announcement, Instapaper might have an edge now as it has made several important features free for which Pocket charges its users. These include ad-free Instapaper website and full-text search for all articles.

“Moving forward, Premium is available for free for all Instapaper users. Now everyone has access to the best version of Instapaper,” the Instapaper team concluded in company’s blogpost.
