Instagram is bringing a new ‘Videos You Might Like’ channel to its photo sharing platform. Instagram, which recently increased the amount of video footage uploaded to its platform seems to be investing heavily on videos. From specially curated video channels to long duration videos – Instagram wants to own all that space.
Instagram users will now see a new channel under explore tab called ‘Videos You Might Like’which curates videos from across the Instagram feeds and repackages them into a rich and smooth viewing experience. When a user clicks the explore, Instagram now shows ‘Videos You Might Like’ on top followed by other pictures from people you don’t follow yet.
Once into the ‘Videos You Might Like’, the experience is as smooth as flicking the panel. The channels shows up videos of interest which doesn’t mean only cat videos. Instagram plans to add ‘Featured Channels’to explore in order to expand the reach of videos on what was once conceived as a photo-sharing platform.
Facebook-owned Instagram like its parent is heavily investing on videos and its quite obvious that our Instagram feeds automatically get filled with videos. “The more you like, the better Explore gets, adjusting to your preferences and showing you more of the stuff you enjoy. And if you see something you don’t like, tap “See Fewer Posts Like This” in the ‘…’ menu to make your Explore experience even better,” Instagram said in a blog post.
Instagram started testing ‘Videos You Might Like’ back in April and is now rolling out the feature to global audience. The feature takes it closer to YouTube, which is the largest repository for videos.
Instagram which is the most optimised form of photo collection on small devices could replicate the idea with videos. With Featured channels and curated video playlist, Instagram is taking a direct shot at YouTube. If Instagram continues with its approach, then soon our Instagram feed will have motion than stills exactly like Facebook where videos are dominating the News Feed.
