Xiaomi Redmi Pro has been launched in China. The highlight of this budget flagship smartphone is its rear dual camera setup. There is a 13MP Sony IMX258 sensor camera on top for still images, and 5MP Samsung sensor rear camera for depth on the bottom. With this kind of a setup, the Redmi Pro joins the league of LG G5, Huawei P9, QiKU Q Terra and HTC One M8. In fact, HTC was one of the first companies to announce such a smartphone — One M8 — back in 2014.

With dual cameras fast becoming an essential feature in flagship smartphones, we could see more of the technology in the coming times. According to rumours, Apple iPhone 7 will sport a dual camera at the back. The phone may be months away from the launch, but leaked pictures of the device can already be found doing rounds on the Internet. Let us take an in-depth look at other smartphones with dual cameras:

Xiaomi Redmi Pro

Xiaomi Redmi Pro will go on sale in China on August 6. The dual camera lenses of this phone are placed one below the other and are designed to capture depth in still images. The camera lenses we see in Redmi Pro do not seem to jut out, making the device slimmer.

Xiaomi Redmi Pro has a 5.5-inch full HD OLED display. It features a brushed Aluminium design with CNC chamfered edges, and a front fingerprint sensor. The smartphone runs MediaTek’s Helio X25 chipset clocked at 2.5 Ghz. There’s also a version with MediaTek Helio X20 processor. In India the Redmi Pro, if it launches, will have to come with a Snapdragon processor.

The high-end 4GB RAM+128GB version costs RMB 1999, while the 3GB RAM+64GB version is priced at RMB 1699. The 3GB RAM+32GB version with MediaTek Helio X20 processor starts at RMB 1499. In India the Redmi Pro, if it launches, will have to come with a Snapdragon processor. Redmi Pro will come in Gold, Silver, Dark Grey colour variants. The battery is 4050 mAh.

LG G5

LG G5, the company’s 2016 flagship was announced in India in June. The highlight of this smartphone is its modular design and dual camera set-up at the back. LG G5 has a primary 16MP camera as well as a second 8MP camera for wide-angle shots. The company has tuned its software for both the rear cameras to work independently.

In our review, we noted the rear camera is one of the best clickers in a smartphone at the moment . The 16MP rear camera that shoots at a wide 78-degree angle do make the images different from competition. The rear camera also comes with a macro option which most other phone cameras lack. The front camera is 8MP.

LG G5 is the first flagship from Korean company to feature metal unibody design. This is one of the most unique looking smartphone ever launched with a slide-out battery tray. As far as other specs go, LG G5 sports a 5.3-inch Quad HD display with always-on mode and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset. LG G5 comes with 4GB RAM and 32GB expandable storage. It is priced at Rs 52,990 in India.

Huawei P9

The Huawei P9, likely to be launched in India on August 17, has dual rear cameras with the lens from Leica, the first phone to brandish this association. Huawei says the two sensors let the P9 rear cameras capture a lot more light than rivals iPhone 6s, Samsung Galaxy S7 and more. Both cameras in Huawei P9 are 12.2MP. While one camera has an RGB sensor for taking coloured photos; the other has a monochrome sensor. The monochrome sensor will allow users to take pictures in black and white. The smartphone features an 8MP front camera.

Huawei P9 was unveiled in China in April. The smartphone has a metal unibody design. Huawei P9 is 7-mm thick and weighs 144 grams. It features a 5.2-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The smartphone is powered by company’s HiSilicon Kirin 955 processor coupled with Mali-T880MP4 GPU. It comes in two storage options – 3GB+32GB and 4GB+64GB.
