OnePlus 3 users will start receiving Google’s latest Android Nougat OS update by the end of this year. OnePlus’ head of software Brian Yoon confirmed the same while speaking to tech website Engadget. He said that a Nougat beta build (community build) will be ready in November, and after all issues in the OS have been ironed out, OnePlus 3 users will start getting OTA (over-the-air) updates.
Yoon has also said older flagships like the OnePlus 2 will be receiving the Nougat update as well, but did not confirm when this will take place. While a recent Geekbench test has shown a OnePlus One running Android Nougat, there was no an mention of the update for this device.
Android Nougat brings a greater multi-tasking platform for users. The notification centre has also seen a change, making it possible to quick reply without entering the app. There is also a new quick settings features that gives quick access to Wi-Fi, flashlight and Bluetooth. Nougat also brings new features like ‘Doze on the Go’, bundled notifications, data saver, file based encryption and much more.
For those wondering if they should get a OnePlus 3 device, do should note that the company is planning to launch an upgraded OnePlus 3T smartphone on November 15. OnePlus 3T is a minor upgrade over the current generation OnePlus 3.
This one will be powered by a Snapdragon 821 processor (OnePlus 3 runs on Snapdragon 820) and comes with Sony’s IMX398 16MP camera sensor. OnePlus 3T is also expected to be running Android Nougat right out-of-the-box.
Earlier this year, OnePlus pooled up its software team resources by combining Hydrogen OS (designed for the Chinese market) and Oxygen OS into one. OnePlus 3 is Amazon India exclusive in India, and comes at Rs 27,999. OnePlus also launched its online store in India, where it will sell its phones as well other accessories.
