InstantRecall is being pushed for the Indian market first. InstantRecall is being pushed for the Indian market first.

Trying to get the better of the eight Amit Sharmas and six Nitin Kumars in your contact list? Well, there is finally an app that lets you add more details to your contacts, giving you a better chance at maintaining and improving those relationships.

InstantRecall, which was launched in India on Saturday, is an Android app that uses a very traditional approach to solving a modern day problem — remembering details about our hundreds of contacts and business partners. The app lets you add notes to contacts to remind you about personal details, personality traits, interests, even what you discussed last time and maybe what not to discuss the next time.

“The goal is to make it effortless to recall personal information about people you value. And there is no resource in the market that focuses on personal information about people,” says Tim Owen, Founder & CEO at NeuroCrunch, underlining the fact that his app was not trying to replace the contact manager on the phone. He could have collated a lot of this data from Facebook and LinkedIn, but as we learnt in school, memory works better when we have written down something. So having fed details into the app might make you recall the same even without opening the app next time you meet a business associate after a long time.

The app is easy to use and with each contact you can add notes on everything from details of spouce and children to hometown and other interests. If you are not game to type the details in, you can always use voice notes. Voice can also be used to pull up the data when you need it. Owen’s vision is to have this working off Android Werar devices too in the near future.

The app keeps reminding you that you spoke to someone today and maybe it might be a good idea to add notes about the conversation or something else you might want to remember. All the tags are searchable and that is the USP of the app.

The app, however, does not sync with the native contacts app on your phone and has to be used separately. So you will have to make it a habit of using InstantRecall.

Owen is aiming to create a platform that can be accessed from the web and will help users over a long period of time. Yes, you can have smart app without it being a slave of context engines and databases.
