Huawei has started sending media invites for its next launch in India on August 17. While the media invite doesn’t giveaway anything about the product, it is likely to be Huawei P9.
In an interaction with IndianExpress.com, Allen Wang, President – Consumer Business, Huawei India confirmed that the company is planning to launch its flagship dual rear camera device in India soon. He added, “We are looking at the right time for launching P series devices in India.”
Huawei P9 is the first ever smartphone to be developed in collaboration with German optics major, Leica. Huawei P9 was announced in April 2016 in China before heading to other markets like US and Europe. The smartphone follows the design language seen on Nexus 6P with metal unibody.
Huawei P9 is just 7mm thick and weighs 144 grams. It was announced in both single SIM and Dual SIM variants and its likely that India will get the Dual SIM device. Huawei P9 features a 5.2-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The smartphone is powered by company’s own HiSilicon Kirin 955 processor coupled with Mali-T880MP4 GPU. The smartphone was announced with 3/32GB and 4/64GB storage options.
Huawei P9 is not about hardware specifications, it is more about the camera. Huawei P9, like LG G5, features a dual rear camera and the Chinese telecom major claims the optics is developed by Leica. The dual image sensors are pegged at 12 megapixels and come with phase detection autofocus and dual-LED flash.
Huawei P9 uses one of its image sensor for reproducing colours while the other one is used for creating monochrome. Huawei claims P9 can capture Leica-like black and white images. Huawei P9 also comes with refocusing abilities and professional mode.
The smartphone features an 8MP front camera and runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with Emotion UI 4.1 on top of it. The smartphone is backed by a 3000mAh battery and uses USB-C port for charging.
Like Nexus 6P, Huawei P9 features a rear fingerprint sensor with 360 degree fingerprint support. The smartphone was announced in White, Gold, Rose Gold, Titanium Grey, Silver colour variants.
