Ringing Bells claims it will deliver 2 lakh units of Freedom 251, the world’s cheapest smartphones in the first phase. The company recently handed out review units to media persons with a pair of earphones and charger in the box. The specifications of the smartphone are written at the back of the box in which Freedom 251 was delivered. According to Ringing Bells, Freedom 251 features a 4-inch qHD IPS display, 1.3 GHz quad-core processor, 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM (expandable up to 32GB via microSD card). Freedom 251 sports a 3.2MP primary camera, 0.3MP front camera and runs Android 5.1 Lollipop. This is a 3G smartphone that supports two micro SIM cards. It supports Wi-Fi and is backed by a 1,450 mAh battery.
However, when we ran Antutu benchmark on Freedom 251, it revealed a different set of specifications. Ringing Bells claims Freedom 251 ships with qHD display which should ideally have a pixel resolution of 960x540p. But according to Antutu, the pixel resolution of the 4-inch screen in Freedom 251 is 800x480p. The biggest surprise is the rear camera which is listed as 3.2MP on the box but Antutu reveals it is 1.9MP only. The front camera is the same in both the cases – 0.3MP.
This, however, isn’t a total shocker as Ringing Bells itself doesn’t seem to clear what the specifications for Freedom 251 is. It had earlier said that Freedom 251 features a WVGA display but later changed its stance and said it comes with qHD display instead.
Ringing Bells Freedom 251 was launched in February. The company said it will deliver 2 lakh units in the first phase. Just a month ago, it started with delivering 5,000 units of Freedom 251. It claims to have shipped around 70,000 units of Freedom 251 now. Ringing Bells recently unveiled several new devices including its Freedom 9900 TV at Rs 9,900. The company now has several feature phones, smartphones and power banks in its portfolio. Ringing Bells is promising it will open bookings for its cheapest LED HD TV tomorrow and will start the delivery process a day after. We will have to wait and see if Ringing Bells actually starts with the booking process.
Stay tuned for our full review of Freedom 251 tomorrow.
