Apple has put an end to all rumours surrounding the launch date of iPhone 7. The Cupertino giant has sent out media invites for an event in San Francisco on September 7. Also, the date suggests the new phone will be called iPhone 7 after all. According to reports, Apple iPhone 7 will be up for pre-orders on September 9 and it could be in stores by September 16. We could expect Apple to launch the iPhone 7 in three models – iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 7 Pro. Apple Watch (2nd gen) is also rumoured to launch alongside the new iPhone models. Keeping up with its practice, Apple did not give out details of any of these devices in the invite. Apple invite has bokeh effect on a black background with ‘See you on the 7th’ written on it. The two prominent dots in the centre of the invite hint at dual camera setup at the back of one the new iPhone models.
Now, Apple iPhone 7 is the most talked about device this year. And, rumours surrounding the new iPhone do not seem to be dying down. Let us take a look at all the rumours surrounding the iPhone 7:
Three iPhone 7 models?
According to reports, Apple is expected to launch three iPhone 7 models – iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 7 Pro. While iPhone 7 is said to have a 4.7-inch screen; other models will feature a 5.5-inch display. Rumours suggest, iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 7 Pro will come with similar specifications expect that the latter will sport a dual rear camera setup.
Apple iPhone 7 256GB model
Recent reports hint at a 256GB storage option for iPhone 7. The report originating from Taiwan says Apple will announce the iPhone 7 with up to 256GB storage. Digitimes reports that iPhone 7 will feature up to 256GB on-board space. Apple is also rumoured to ditch the 16GB storage as base variant in favour of a 32GB model.
Dual camera set-up, no headphone jack
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who is known for his Apple scoops, reported the new iPhone will have a dual-rear camera, a home button with taptic feedback (similar to what Apple Watch has) and no headphone jack. According to Gurman, the dual-rear camera set up won’t appear on the smaller 4.7-inch version of iPhones. He adds the cameras will allow for brighter photos, especially in low-light settings.
Apple iPhone 7 black colour variant, Smart Lightning Connector and Force Touch button
Leaked renders of iPhone 7 Plus from China suggest the device could launc in black colour variant as well. In fact, there are indications Apple might even launch a dark blue version. In July, designer Martin Hajek created 3D iPhone 7 renders in a black colour option, which had gone viral on the internet. Interestingly the renders also showed a Force Touch button, another feature we can expect. It is almost certain that Apple will drop headphone jack, and go with a new Smart Lightning Connector.
Speaker grill at the bottom
A report from Chinese website MyDrivers, shows assembly drawings of iPhone 7. The drawings reveal the new iPhone will have a second “speaker grill” at the bottom, no headphones and dual cameras.
Apple CEO Tim Cook has promised the new phones will make every user want to upgrade, and it will be a crucial launch for the company which needs to boost sagging iPhone sales. We’ll have to wait for the official launch to happen to know if any of these rumours are true.
