Apple has officially announced the India price of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Well, it is certainly cheaper, if you hoped for that, but it hasn’t become more affordable. Apple iPhone 7 starts at Rs 60,000 while the iPhone 7 Plus starts at Rs 72,000, as reported by us earlier. The iPhone 7 is starting Rs 2,000 cheaper than the starting price of iPhone 6s which launched at Rs 62,000.
In a not-so surprising move, Apple also announced price cuts of up to Rs 22,000 on last year’s iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. The Rs 22,000 price cut may sound big, but there is a catch. Apple is only reducing the price of iPhone 6s and 6s Plus with 128GB storage. iPhone 6s which was launched at Rs 82,000, will now be available at Rs 60,000. Apple is only cutting the price of iPhone 6s and 6s Plus with 128GB storage, and also the smaller iPhone SE with 64GB storage.
For Rs 60,000, you can either get the latest iPhone 7 with 32GB storage or last year’s iPhone 6s with 128GB storage. So where should you put your money?
Before answering that question, it would be wise to evaluate both the devices.
Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are the latest from the company. iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are not much different from 2014’s iPhone 6 in terms of design, but they are the fastest and most efficient iPhones yet. Apple is also offering two new colour options – Black and Jet Black.
With iPhone 7, Apple has also made optical image stabilisation standard among latest iPhones. Basically iPhone 7 32GB alone becomes a great video camera right now, but that 32GB storage won’t be good enough for 4K video recording. The 2016 iPhone 7 also comes with wider f/1.8 aperture promising better low-light photos and an upgraded 7MP iSight camera which will be one of the finest selfie shooter. As far as iPhone 7 Plus is concerned, Apple has added a dual rear camera setup with one lens for wide-angle and another one for telephoto. Apple is promising 2x optical zoom and 10x digital zoom with iPhone 7 Plus, but the portrait mode with natural bokeh (pronounced boh-kay) will only be available with a software update later this year.
Apple iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, on the other hand, are still great smartphones offering perfect aesthetics, excellent camera and a really secure iOS ecosystem. Apple iPhone 6s, especially the 128GB model at Rs 60,000, now gives enough space for storing your live photos, 4K videos and iOS apps.
In our review, we called iPhone 6s Plus the most dependable smartphone in the market. The most important different between iPhone 6s and iPhone 7 is the upgraded camera and IP67 certified water resistance. If you can do away with these, Apple iPhone 6s is still a great smartphone and can last for two more years considering Apple’s three-year refresh cycle.
