Apple is all set to announce iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus later today. Apple is reportedly planning to ditch the proprietary 3.5mm headphone jack like Motorola and other smartphone makers. Apple will have strong reasoning for taking that move but the Cupertino giant could also concentrate on what next after the end of the audio jack.
Apple is likely to introduce lightning connected earpods with its new iPhones but rumours point at wireless earpods aptly named Airpods. Apple Airpods are likely to be designed like Bragi’s Dash but expected to feature a custom-designed wireless chip for audio transmission. The wireless audio transmission is expected to work like Bluetooth but it is expected to be far more battery efficient.
Details on Apple’s Airpods and use of custom wireless chip were revealed by KGI securities’ analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. According to AppleInsider, Ming-Chi Kuo revealed details on the wireless airpods in a new research note. According to Kuo, the wireless headphone will play an important role for Apple in the post headphone jack era.
“Apple will likely have its own-designed Bluetooth-like communication chip and launch own-brand Bluetooth headphones targeting the high-end market, with Beats positioned in the midrange market,” Kuo was quoted by AppleInsider.
Kuo says Apple may not bundle the wireless Airpods with iPhone at the time launch and rather suggest it as an accessory for newer iPhones. Earlier, leaked packaging for iPhone 7 hinted at Apple including lightning connected earpods and an adapter for lighting to 3.5mm proprietary headphones.
It seems AirPods is a combination of AirPlay wireless streaming and the Earpods. Apple event takes place later tonight at 10.30PM IST and we will be live with all the latest updates from Tim Cook and company.
