Samsung has announced the launch of its Gear S3 smartwatch on October 11 in South Korea. Samsung Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Classic were unveiled by the company at IFA 2016 in Berlin, and comes with a similar round design as the Gear S2. The watches will go on sale in western markets within the week, but no dates announced on when the watch will be coming to India.

Both watches come with an IP68 water resistant rating; support mobile payments, LTE connectivity, GPS and have a built-in speaker. While the Gear S3 Classic carries a minimalist design, the Frontier is designed with a more rugged look with a bigger watch face and brighter bands. The watches also come with the S Health app, Speedometer and Altimeter/barometer apps that help track day-to-day fitness activities.

Gear S3 smartwatches come with MST payment capabilities, which means that users can tap or swipe their debit or credit card on the watch and then make mobile payments using it. Samsung Pay will be available in Australia, Singapore and US at the time of the Gear S3 launch.

“A significant addition to our smartwatch portfolio, we drew inspiration from classic watch manufacturers to offer consumers a premium timepiece,” said Younghee Lee, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing and Wearable Business, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. “The immensely intelligent Gear S3 is a testament to our focus on evolving and leading the wearables category and ultimately delivering a smartwatch unlike any other on the market.”
