Microsoft has refreshed its Surface Book portfolio with 30 per cent more battery life and double the graphics performance. At its October event, Microsoft announced upgraded Surface Book which is the most powerful version ever produced. Microsoft is calling the new device – Surface Book i7 – clearly denoting the use of Intel’s Core i7 processor. Microsoft’s updated Surface Book features NVIDIA’s GTX 965M GPU capable of pushing 1.9 teraflops of graphics performance. Microsoft says it redesigned the cooling system in order to allow the processor and GPU work in full force. Microsoft is also touting the battery life upgrade to 16 hours – which definitely means all day battery life.
However, Microsoft is not refreshing the design of Surface Book by retaining the all aluminium unibody chassis and dynamic fulcrum hinge. Microsoft says the updated processor allows room for a larger battery and it shows in the form of additional weight. Microsoft Surface Book weighs 1.64Kg in comparison with its predecessor, which weighed around 1.57 kilograms.
Microsoft announced Surface Book last year in October as an ideal Windows 10 notebook. While Surface Pro 4 was an hybrid, Surface Book pretended to the full fledged laptop with its own chiclet style keyboard. With Surface Book, Microsoft packed all the guts of the device into the display and made the display detachable for use as a tablet. Microsoft Surface Book features a 13.5-inch PixelSense display with a resolution of 3000 x 2000 pixels and an aspect ratio of 3:2. The Surface Book also comes with Surface Pen for inking and comes in 8 or 16GB RAM.
Microsoft Surface Book will be available with 256GB, 512GB or 1TB storage options priced at $2,399, $2,799, and $3,299, respectively. Microsoft’s upgraded Surface Book is up for preorder now and will be available on November 10. The laptop is not expected to hit Indian markets anytime soon.
