Father’s Day today is here, and if you’re considering some gifts for your dad, smartwatches or smart wearables are a worthy option.
Most dads love their watches, and tend to hold on to them forever. But 2016 might be the year to get your father to upgrade to a smartwatch, or get a fitness band to keep a tab on his health and fitness. And there are now plenty of good options in the market.
Here’s a quick list ranging from most expensive to the cheapest ones, you can gift dad.
If your father is an Apple fan and has an iPhone 5 and above, and budget is not a concern, the Apple Watch is the best companion you can get him.
Apple Watch starts in India starts at Rs 30,900 for the Sport Edition, while the Apple Watch costs Rs 48,900.
The larger 42mm frame–better suited for men– is also available, where Apple Watch Sport costs Rs 34,900, while Apple Watch costs Rs 52,900. The high-end Apple Watch edition has a 18-Carat Rose Gold Case with White Sport Band. Prices of extra straps starts at Rs 3,900.

Samsung Gear S2
Dad doesn’t care for Apple? Well Samsung has its own smartwatch called Gear S2, and this one is a beauty. Gear S2 is a round-watch, which might appeal to dads, who like classic watch designs.
Gear S2 is priced at Rs 24,300, while the Gear S2 Classic costs Rs 25,800.
Samsung has also launched an 18K-plated rose gold colour option, and a Platinum version priced at Rs 34,900 in India in case you want something to gift fancier.
The Gear S2 also has an in-built heart-rate sensor, works well as a fitness-tracking device and is compatible any Android device with version 4.4 and above, and uses Samsung’s Tizen OS. Read our full review of the Gear S2 here.
Huawei Watch: Huawei Watch is an Android Wear powered device with a scratch-proof sapphire crystal coated display. Priced at Rs 22,999 this watch has a stainless steel frame, along with a built-in heart rate monitor, and 6-Axis motion sensors. It is compatible with both Android and iOS devices.

Moto 360 2 : If Huawei Watch doesn’t sound like the right fit for dad, but Android Wear is what you want, Moto 360 (2015 edition) is another one to consider.
Motorola launched 5 variants of the new Moto 360 (2015) in India which are priced between Rs 19,999 and Rs 23,999. The men’s Moto 360 come in a 42mm and a 46mm watch case with two different band sizes, so there are more size options to consider here. Read our review of the Moto 360 2 here.
Pebble Time: Pebble, the original smartwatch maker has finally launched its smartwatch range in India. Pebble now offers Classic, Pebble Time, Pebble Time Steel and Pebble Time around exclusively on Amazon India and might be good option to consider for this Father’s Day as these watches work with both Android and iOS.
Pebble starts Rs 5,999 for the Classic variant, Rs 9,999 for Pebble Time, Rs 13,599 for Pebble Time Round & Rs 15,999 for Pebble Time Steel.

Fitbit : If you’re looking solely at wearables from a health perspective, Fitbit has a lot of options in the market. Fitbit Blaze smartwatch which has health and fitness covered along with other elements of a smartwatch. Price is Rs 15,999. There’s the Fitbit Charge HR Heart Rate and Activity Wristband, which costs Rs 11,999, and in our review we called it the best fitness tracker in the market.

TomTom Spark Watch series: If your father is a serious fitness buff, with a love for running, swimming and cycling, the TomTom Spark Watch series are the way to go.
Strictly for fitness freaks and marathon-loving folks, these watches will help track and achieve running goals, exercises, cycling, swimming etc. The most expensive version of the watch costs Rs 21,999.

Goqii Band: Goqii Bands are another option to consider for your father, given these come with an actual coach/trainer programme added to them. It will ensure that your father actually ends up taking some health tips, and maybe even follow them. The bands start at Rs 1,500 going up all the way to Rs 5,000 on Amazon India.
Mi Band: At Rs 999, Mi Band is the cheapest fitness and sleep tracker you can get for your dad, and actually it does a pretty good job tracking sleep. It might have minimal features on the list, but hey its the thought that counts.
