Canon has announced the launch of its latest addition to the EOS M series – the new Canon EOS M5. It features a 24.2MP APS-C sized CMOS sensor and a DIGIC 7 Image Processor, which the company claims is the fastest AF speed in the M-series. EOS M5 is the first camera in the series to feature a low energy Bluetooth connection that can stay connected to a compatible device using the camera connect app.
The camera has an ISO setting between 100-25,600. It can take high-speed continuous shooting at up to seven frames per second, and up to nine frames per second with the AF lock. The new DIGIC 7 Image Processor allows for an improved AF tracking performance.
Canon EOS M5 has an inbuilt EVF (electronic view finder), and the touch LCD panel allows user to touch and drag the AF to quickly change the focus while taking pictures. The 3.2-inch tilt-type monitor helps for a more flexible positioning.
“The new capabilities found in the Canon EOS M5 Camera and EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens set a new standard for our EOS M series of cameras and lenses, showing that Canon is constantly incorporating performance enhancements desired by our customers,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon USA, Inc. “When paired together, the new EOS M5 camera and EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens provide image-makers of all levels with powerful tools that enable them to capture a variety of remarkable images and videos,” he added.
Canon has also launched a new lens – the EF-M 18-140mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM that is compatible with all cameras in the EOS M-series. It comes with a low energy Bluetooth connectivity that can transfer photos to a compatible device, and also allow the device to work like a remote control.
Canon EOS M5 camera will be available in US through Canon dealers or through the official website in November 2016, for an estimated price of $980 (approx Rs 66,000) for the body only. The new Canon EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens will be available in graphite and silver colors, and will be available in December 2016 for $500 (approx Rs 33,000).
