The new watch features a dual core processor and a new GPU that gives twice the performance from the previous generation. The display on the Series 2 Apple Watch is 1000 nits, which Apple claims will make for better readability in the sun.

Apple Watch Series 2 is waterproof up to 50m, making it good for swimming, surfing and how Apple puts it – ‘cannon balling’ in the water.  It will record your swimming information as well – laps, distance swum, time, and more.

The watch will come in three types of cases – Aluminium, Stainless steel, and also Ceramic. The while Apple Watch Series 2 will be made of ceramic that has a pearl like shine and is four times harder than stainless steel.

Apple will not be bringing in LTE support with the Apple Watch 2, as the current generation LTE chips drain too much battery power. We might end up seeing the feature in the Apple Watch 3.

The first generation Apple Watch was launched in 2015 and went on to become the best selling smartwatch. The watch was launched in India a little over six months after the global launch at Rs 36,999. This price was significantly higher than what the watch retailed for in the US.

Apple Watch (first gen) features Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. It comes with 512MB RAM and an 8GB ROM. The sensors package on the watch includes an accelerometer, gyro and a heart rate monitor.

Even though IDC has reported the smartwatch market to be shrinking in 2016, Apple’s smartwatch is the number one seller among all others. Apple was able to ship 1.6 million of these watches in the second quarter of 2016, while the second company on the list, Samsung, was able to ship only 600,000 smartwatches during the same period.
