Day 2 didn’t have the activity and big hitting as one would like to see at a Grand Slam. It brought to the fore motivation of players after two consecutive pull outs on Center Court. Moving on to Day 3, Wimbledon organisers hoped to that the talk returned to the activity on the court – of matches finishing and that is how it remained. Murray, Nadal, Cilic, Nishikori, Tsonga all advanced. On the women’s side, Konta, Azarenka, Venus were pushed but the shock result came in the form of Kvitova’s exit from the tournament. For Indian players, Purav Raja/Divij Sharan and Sania Mirza won while Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan lost.

2140 hrs IST: Murray wins the opening set 6-3! Been a steady show from Andy and deservedly takes a set lead
2136 hrs IST: Ruben Bemelmans of Belgium has beaten Daniil Medvedev of Russia in straight sets. Medvedev had beaten Wawrinka in the opening round. No trouble for Bemelmans in picking up just his second win in a Grand Sleam second-round match

1930 hrs IST: It is all even on Court No 1. Nishikori led 5-2 in the tiebreak against Stakhovsky and then had a set point but he’s let go of both of them and gone on to drop the second. One set all!

Game point now for Vesnina with Azarenka erring on the service return. Back to deuce – the third – after Vesnina hits the net. Azarenka goes for one off the line on the backhand but it is into the tramlines. Another chance to hold. Big serve to start, forced to play two more balls than she should have by Azarenka and sends the half-smash into the net. Not the right height for a smash from the back of the court. But she is still fighting at it courtesy a beautiful forehand drive down the line. Sweet exchange at the net between the two players before Azarenka creates the space to volley into open court. Deuce. And the match finishes with a double fault! Worst way to lose a match. Azarenka won’t complain. She is through to the third round with a 6-3, 6-3 win
1732 hrs IST: Vesnina has the trainer out. Doesn’t look okay. Azarenka up a set and 4-3 in second. Meanwhile Azarenka is keeping herself warm and ready by serving in an open court. Going back to the drawing board to stay warm and keeping her body ready when play begins
