Novak Djokovic advances to Rogers Cup semifinals in Toronto

Top-ranked Novak Djokovic beat fifth-seeded Tomas Berdych 7-6 (6), 6-4 on Friday to advance to the Rogers Cup semifinals.

Djokovic improved to 25-2 against the fifth-seeded Czech player.

The 29-year-old Serbian star won the event that rotates between Toronto and Montreal in 2007, 2011 and 2012.

On Saturday, Djokovic will face 10th-seeded Gael Monfils of France. Monfils beat fourth-seeded Milos Raonic of Canada 6-4, 6-4.

Djokovic has six victories this year, two in Grand Slam events at the Australian and French opens.

In the other quarterfinals, second-seeded Stan Wawrinka of Switzerland topped South Africa’s Kevin Anderson 6-1, 6-3, and third-seeded Kei Nishikori of Japan beat Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
