ABOUT NINE years after he was put in Bhubaneswar’s SAI sports hostel at the orders of the Child Welfare Committee, marathon prodigy Budhia Singh Friday made it clear that he would not return to the hostel.

In a written communication to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Budhia said he doesn’t want to return to the sports hostel as it did not have basic infrastructure and facilities for training.

“I feel like I am in jail. In the hostel there is no proper training for me. I don’t want to return to the hostel,” he said, two days after he returned after a month-long vacation in Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu. Budhia had left the hostel for over a month without a notice to the authorities.

The Bhubaneswar Police recorded his statement under Section 164 of CrPC at the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court here.
