Salman Khan ‘s appointment as the goodwill ambassador of the Indian contingent for the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro came under scathing criticism from wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt and legendary sprinter Milkha Singh. Both questioned the motive behind appointing a Bollywood superstar instead of a sportsperson as the ambassador.

Defending Salman Khan in the face of this rising criticism was his father Salim Khan. Taking to Twitter, Salim wrote, “Salman may not have competed but is an A list swimmer, cyclist and weight lifter. Sportsmen are performing because of sports lovers like us.”

Taking on Milkha Singh, Salim said, “It’s not Bollywood industry but the Indian film industry which is the largest in the world.”

Salman Khan will go to Rio on his own expenses and stay at his own expenses. But an Indian Ambador for the sporting fraternity will go and stay at the expense of the Government. Secondly, he will also show his stingy mentality with fighting for more of daily allowance.

Now that the Olympics has grabbed the headlines, we can conveniently get rid of Salman Khan as ambador and get on with life as usual.
