World Kabaddi Cup to begin in Punjab from November 3

The state has engaged actor Arjan Bajwa and noted comedian Bharti for the inaugural function, besides number of other performers.

On November 3, the state government will go ahead with the Rs 2-crore launch for the World Kabaddi Cup, including a 90-minute cultural programme in Ropar district.

The state has engaged actor Arjan Bajwa and noted comedian Bharti for the inaugural function, besides number of other performers. A group of foreign artistes would also perform for the ceremony.

As many as 12 teams in the men’s category and 10 teams in women’s category are participating in the event which will culminate on November 17. The countries from where Kabaddi teams are participating include United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Sweden, Mexico, Tanzania, Kenya and Siera Leone.

Pakistan, one of the most followed teams in the previous tournaments, will not participate due to the hostilities between the two nations.

Punjab Sports Director Rahul Gupta, said the tournament would be declared open by following protocol on November 3. “There will be a cultural program spanning an hour and half in the two hour program from 7 pm to 9 pm.” Gupta said.
Asked about the funding, Gupta said, “The tournament is being funded largely by the sponsors.”
