Khromacheva lifts double crown at Pune Open

IRINA KHROMACHEVA of Russia claimed a double crown adding the singles title to the doubles title at the $25000+H Pune Open ITF women’s championships organised by NS Sports Academy under the auspices of AITA, MSLTA and PMDTA which concluded at the Deccan Gymkhana tennis courts.

Irina Khromacheva of Russia, 92nd ranked, took just 57 minutes to end the challenge of 233 ranked Japanese Riko Sawayanagi 6-1, 6-1 in a one sided final .

In the first set a match started with one all, Irina broke Rika in third, Fifth and seventh game to clinch the set 6-1. In the second set, Irina continued her good form breaking Rika in Fourth and sixth game to score 6-1 win.

“I am very happy with the way tournament went for me. It was nice to come to India for the first time and play here. I will love to visit Pune again.” She added, “A few matches were tough. I had ups and downs but in the end managed it quite well. Also with this win I will ensure an entry into the Australian Open in 2017.”

The winner of the event got 60 WTA points and a trophy, the runners-up got 36 points and a trophy. The prizes were given away at the hands of Mr. Sunder Iyer, Hon. Sec of MSLTA, Former Davis Cupper Mr. Nandan Bal. Tournament director Mr.Navnath Shete, Mr.Sudhir Ranade, Tennis Sec. of Deccan Gymkhana, and Rashmi Ghulewala were present on the occasion.
