Google has marked the 120th anniversary of Modern Olympics with a doodle that celebrates the quadrennial event that began in 1896.

There are four versions of the doodle each featuring a different discipline from the sporting event that was held in Athens and had athletes from 14 nations.

241 athletes – all men – from 14 nations participated in 43 events such as tennis, fencing, weightlifting, track and field, cycling, shooting, swimming, wrestling and gymnastics.

This isn’t the first time Google has used a sports based doodle with previous ones being around the recently concluded World T20, 2015 Women’s World Cup, 2015 Cricket World Cup and one during the start of the Tour de France in 2013 which was the 100th edition of the cycle race.
