India outclass Canada to get their Junior Hockey World Cup campaign off to a winning start in Lucknow on Thursday. Goals from Harmanpreet, Mandeep, Varun Kumar and Ajit Pandey give India a 4-0 win over their opponents. While the first half was a keenly contested affair, it was India all the way after Mandeep gave India the lead, 30 seconds to the half-time whistle. Harmanpreet doubled the lead after he converted the penalty stroke, and Varun added one more to the tally when he converted India’s fifth penalty corner of the night. India were not done yet as they penetrated from the left towards the fag end of the second half and a waiting Ajit guided one in to give India the fourth goal of the match. Canada were compact in defence, at times, but failed to get their attacking game right.
